Care & maintenance

What to do, what to never do.

Daily and weekly habits

Take rings off before applying lotion, perfume, sunscreen, and hairspray. The chemicals dull metal and can permanently etch certain stones (emerald, pearl, opal, turquoise). Store rings in their original boxes — soft metals scratch each other in shared compartments.

Wipe pieces with a soft, dry microfibre cloth at the end of each wear day. Skin oils dull stones and accelerate metal tarnish on silver and rose gold.

§02

Cleaning at home

For diamonds, sapphires, and rubies in standard settings: soak in lukewarm water with a single drop of mild dish soap for 10 minutes, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, pat dry. Safe.

For emerald, pearl, opal, turquoise, lapis, malachite: never soak. Never use ultrasonic cleaners. Never use hot water. These stones are porous, fragile, or filled with stabilising oils that will be stripped by improper cleaning. Wipe only.

Kundan and Polki: never soak. The lac base behind the stones softens with water and the foil backing will tarnish. Wipe only, with a dry cloth.

Professional service

Bring high-wear rings (engagement rings, daily wear) in for inspection annually. Prongs wear down, channels loosen, and small repairs done early prevent stone loss. Pieces purchased from us are inspected and cleaned complimentary for the first two years.

House rule: when in doubt, wipe — never wash. Bring it to us if uncertain.
